Mayor's Biography
Mayor Gay Lynn Bennion
Mayor Gay Lynn Bennion graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in English. Her husband, Jim, served 26 years active-duty in the Air Force, and their four children were born in four different states. She taught English as a volunteer through English Skills Learning Center and served in Women’s State Legislative Council of Utah leadership for seven years.
She was elected to represent House District 46 in 2020 and served on Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environmental Quality, Political Subdivisions Committees and Veterans and Military Affairs Commission until her resignation from the legislature in December, 2025.
She is honored to serve as mayor of Cottonwood Heights, is amazed by the wonderful people in our city, and enjoys meeting with them.
She enjoys reading and being in nature with friends and family hiking, biking, and skiing.
