All work done in the city right of way requires a permit and must be inspected.
Before applying for a permit, please review the city's Right of Way Permit Requirements packet to understand what is required. Right of Way Permit Applications should be submitted online. If you do not have the ability to fill it out online, a physical copy of the right of way application can be obtained and submitted at Public Works (6579 S. 3000 E.).
Follow these steps to get a permit:
- Complete the Right of Way Permit Checklist. Have all documents ready to upload online or submit in person.
- Complete the online application here and upload all required documents.
- Your permit application will be reviewed for completeness. Once it is determined that your application is complete, staff will notify you of required fees in accordance with the approved fee schedule.
- Pay the permit fee in-person at Cottonwood Heights City Hall (2277 E Bengal Blvd) or by calling 801-944-7000.
- Once your payment has been received, city staff has 10 business days to review your permit applications. You will be notified of any corrections or revisions needed.
- Once your permit is approved, your permit will be in an OPEN status for up to six months.
- When you are ready to perform the work associated with your permit, call 801-944-7002 at least two working days prior to beginning work. A failure to notify fee of $200 will be assessed if proper notification is not provided. Your permit will be ACTIVE for 30 days.
- If you need additional time, submit a Right of Way Permit Extension and pay the extension fee at least one day before your permit expires.
