Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary Through Art

Join us for one of Butlerville Days' most colorful traditions as we celebrate America 250 with our annual Chalk Art Contest! Whether you're an experienced artist, a family creating together, or someone simply looking to have fun, we invite you to transform the pavement into a vibrant outdoor gallery.

This year's celebration honors 250 years of American history, creativity, and community. We encourage artists to let their imagination shine—whether through patriotic inspiration, local pride, iconic American landscapes, or completely original works of art.

Artists may begin creating at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with judging taking place at 6:00 p.m. Winners will be announced on the Main Stage at 7:00 p.m.

Contest Rules

• Each participant or team will be assigned a pavement space and must cover at least a 4' × 4' area.
• Participants should bring their own chalk, water, and shade. Canopies are welcome.
• Artists are responsible for protecting their artwork in the event of rain or other weather conditions.
• Washable tempera paint is permitted. Oil pastels are not allowed. Participants may be asked to remove any unapproved materials.
• Original artwork is encouraged. If artwork is inspired by or derived from another source, appropriate credit must be given.
• Stenciling is not permitted.
• By participating, artists grant the City permission to photograph and use images of their artwork for promotional purposes.
• The City of Cottonwood Heights and the Butlerville Days Committee reserve the right to disqualify or remove artwork deemed inappropriate. Artwork may not contain nudity, lewdness, political messaging, personal agendas, controversial subject matter, or other content inconsistent with the family-friendly spirit of the festival.
• The contest concludes at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Judging will begin immediately thereafter, and winners will be recognized during the awards ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on the Main Stage.
