As we move through the summer, I wanted to take a moment to share an update on several important initiatives that your City Council and staff have been working on. While many of these projects take months, or even years, to complete, each represents an investment in the future of Cottonwood Heights.

One of our most significant ongoing efforts is updating the City's General Plan. This document serves as the long-term vision for how our community will grow, preserve neighborhood character, improve transportation, support businesses, and maintain the quality of life that residents value. Public participation is a key part of this process, and I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities to share your thoughts as we shape the next chapter of Cottonwood Heights.

The City also continues to place a strong emphasis on economic development. Attracting high-quality businesses, supporting redevelopment opportunities, and strengthening our commercial tax base remain important priorities. A stronger local economy helps diversify City revenues and positions us to maintain the services residents expect while reducing long-term reliance on property taxes.

Financial sustainability has also been a major focus in recent Council discussions. The proposed Truth in Taxation process on August 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM, is intended to address longstanding structural budget challenges while providing the resources needed to maintain essential services, invest in City infrastructure, and plan responsibly for the future. Public participation is encouraged, and I invite residents to learn more by visiting our website and sharing their perspectives during the upcoming public hearing.

In addition, the City continues to invest in public safety, transportation, parks, and infrastructure improvements. From roadway maintenance and facility upgrades to long-range planning for community assets, our goal is to ensure that Cottonwood Heights remains a safe, attractive, and well-maintained place to live. Staff also continue working closely with our public safety partners to prepare for seasonal challenges, including wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness.

I am continually impressed by the dedication of our employees, elected officials, volunteers, and engaged residents. Their commitment to thoughtful planning and responsible stewardship is what makes progress possible.
