Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Post Date:04/29/2026

Community Makes Strong Impact at Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The City’s Health in the Heights Committee successfully hosted a Prescription Drug Take Back Day, providing residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused and expired medications.

During the event, a total of 89.2 pounds of prescription medications were collected. This is a significant contribution when compared to the 260.41 pounds collected through the Police Department’s medication drop box over the six-month period from November 2025 to April 2026. Notably, the Take Back Day event alone accounted for 25.58% of that total.

This strong participation highlights the community’s commitment to safe medication disposal and public health.

The City extends its appreciation to Public Health Coordinator, Sondra Stephens, as well as the Police Department, for their efforts in organizing and supporting this important initiative.

Residents are reminded that safe disposal options are available year-round. Unused or expired prescription medications can be dropped off at the Police Department during regular business hours.

Police Department Hours:
Monday through Thursday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
(City offices are closed on Fridays)

By continuing to properly dispose of medications, residents help prevent misuse, protect the environment, and contribute to a healthier community.
