Fostering a Healthier Community: Health in the Heights Coalition Having Transportation Issues?
The Health in the Heights Coalition is a grant-funded program that guides communities through a proven five-phase community change process called Communities that Care (CTC). Grounded in prevention science, CTC promotes healthy youth development, strengthens protective factors, and reduces problem behaviors across the community.
Our vision: Cottonwood Heights is a connected community of youth and adults, empowering one another to grow as healthy, compassionate, and engaged citizens.
What We Do: Health in the Heights guides our community through a process to build a sustainable system that prevents the most widespread health and behavior problems before they start. The coalition is made up of a wide variety of community members who make this process happen.
Using prevention science and data-driven strategies, the coalition works to:
- Address the predictors of problem behaviors before they occur
- Identify and reduce risk factors
- Strengthen and enhance protective factors
- Implement tested and effective programs proven to create lasting, positive change
Our Impact So Far:
Together, coalition members have:
- Hosted National Drug Take Back Day events
- Offered QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention trainings
- Tabled at numerous community events to share prevention resources
- Earned the Healthy Utah Community designation for Cottonwood Heights City
This designation and all the coalition’s volunteer-driven efforts reflect a shared commitment to ensuring every resident has the opportunity to live a healthy, thriving life. With strong support from city officials and key community leaders, Health in the Heights is excited to continue implementing strategies that make Cottonwood Heights a healthier, more connected community for all. ■
