Cottonwood Heights resident Kaatje Fisk was recently recognized by the Girl Scouts of Utah with a Gold Award, one of two Cottonwood Heights teens to receive the award this year, and one of only five girls in the entire state to achieve the honor.

Seventeen-year-old Kaatje is a senior at the Salt Lake Center for Science and Education Charter School in Rose Park, and has lived in Cottonwood Heights with her parents and younger brother since 2006.

Fisk was honored for her science project that helps track and minimize the spread of Quagga Mussels in Utah’s lakes and reservoirs.

The Gold Award is given to young women who innovate, take risks and show great leadership in the community. It is the highest and most prestigious award in the Girl Scouts organization.
