Mariko Kowalski is a talented illustrator, painter, and graphic design artist.

She received her BS degree in graphic design from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, and her master’s degree from the Tokyo University of the Arts in Visual Design. After working ten years as an illustrator and graphic designer in Tokyo, she took a break, but then started to paint again in 2006.

Mariko is not only an award-winning artist, but she is also an accomplished teacher in the acrylic painting discipline, offering instruction from her home Cottonwood Heights home studio since 2009.

Mariko’s paintings feature flowers, plants, and birds because she believes these subjects are much easier for her to receive an "inspired image."

Her paintings were recently selected for the Utah Watercolor Society spring and fall show, Springville Museum spring and fall art shows, Annual Utah State Art Exhibitions at the Rio Grande, and the Hogle Zoo art show, where she has received several awards.  Many of her students have also received awards at various local and state art shows.

Mariko's artwork will be on display at City Hall during November.
