Michael Johnson was recently named as the city’s new community and economic development director, taking over for Brian Berndt, who left Cottonwood Heights in April for a position at another city.

Johnson began his career at Cottonwood Heights as a planning intern in 2001, while attending Brigham Young University. He has held several positions within the CH Planning Department ever since, including a role as senior planner for the past two and a half years.

Johnson was born and raised in Rochester, Minn., and moved to Utah to attend college. Besides his bachelor's degree in planning from BYU, he also attained a master's of public administration degree from the University of Utah.

Michael currently resides in Sandy with his wife and two children.
