City Creates Ordinance Enforcement Division

In an effort to hold down costs and to improve efficiency and effectiveness in services to the public, the city has brought Animal Control in-house and merged it into a single Division with Code and Zoning enforcement.  Both services will be directed by Kevin Smith, Deputy City Manager.

John Lovato, who has served as the Animal Control Officer in Cottonwood Heights for the past three years as a Salt Lake County employee, will head up the Animal Control and Residential Zoning section of the new Division.  The Public Works and Public Zoning enforcement section will be supervised by Mike Allen who has been functioning as the City Public Works inspector for the past two years.

All Zoning, Code Enforcement, and Animal Control issues will be handled by the new division.  Residents with concerns in these areas can contact the appropriate personnel through the “E Better Place” or contacting Officer Lovato at 944-7095 or Officer Kassapakis at 944-7096.

The Ordinance Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcement of the following Cottonwood Heights City Code Provisions:

Animal Control Violations

Public Nuisances

Building Code Violations

Zoning and Land Use Violations

Improper use of Streets and Sidewalks

Weed Abatement

Business Licensing

Public Heath and Safety Violations

Our Mission:

The Cottonwood Heights City Council has adopted City Codes (laws) specifically designed to address blight, nuisances, and to maintain a clean environment for all citizens in our community.  Cottonwood Heights does this by working in partnership with the residents, property owners and business owners in our community.

The mission of the Ordinance Enforcement Division is to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. We help maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land use requirements. We also work with residents, neighborhood associations, public services agencies and other City departments to facilitate voluntary compliance with City laws and codes and to establish community priorities for enforcement programs.
